I have a 782 with a KT17 series 2 engine. The PTO bearing started making noise, so in looking for a replacement, I noticed a rebuilt PTO on EBAY with a new bearing installed. So I figured I could do the same. I got the old bearing pressed out, but there are no numbers on it. These measurements are approx- ID-1 3/16, OD-2 7/16 and width - 5/8 in. I also was able to remove the sleeve inside the bearing, and it is in excellent shape. All I need is a bearing number. I know the replacement number for the clutch is 717-3044 and the original clutch part number is IH 144720-C91. Any help out there?

Hello and
![]() It's a 6206 bearing. You can get them at Napa. If you have the dimensions, a part store should have had no trouble getting you a bearing. Napa number 62062RSJ |

I just called NAPA, and they will have the bearing there by tomorrow. I'll let you know how it turns out - thanks again for the quick response. It's the first time I used this forum, and it's great! John

I need to replace mine too, please update on your progress.
Does the bearing need to be pressed out/in or can it be pounded out/in with a socket and hammer? Is there only one bearing on this model clutch? I noticed a couple options from NAPA, is the more expensive bearing much better quality? Thanks, Bill http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Ca...RSJ_0309976200 http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Ca...RSJ_0329247594 |

I pounded out the old bearing with a piece of oak wood so I didn't mar the reducing sleeve. First I ground out the 3 stakes with a Dremel. There is only 1 bearing on the 782 clutch. NAPA charged me $31.49 - Bearing #62062RSJ. After the old bearing is out, I gently pounded out the reducing sleeve with a piece of wood. Put the new bearing in the freezer for an hour, and it will go in without much pounding. John

And I will note, it only is used when the PTO is in the OFF position. When it's ON the bearing is not in use.

Update on my PTO bearing - replacement was much easier than I expected. It sure saved me lots of money compared to the price of a new after-market PTO, or rebuilt one from EBAY. John

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
