Default Electric problems on my LT1024

Hi folks, A newbie here! I have a LT1024 1000 series with a 24hp B&S. A little history first. At the end of the last mowing season, I noticed a leak on the crankcase gasket. After researching online, I figured that replacing it was within my skill level. All went well other than removing the engine pulley was a pain! The battery was dead from sitting all winter? Key left on??? I jump started it and it fired right up-no leaks! However, none of the electronics worked-headlights, dash, PTO, etc. There was nothing obviously wrong/unplugged. The fuse wasn't blown. Wiring and such isn't one of my strong points. Any help would be appreciated!

I don't want to come across as an a$$ but the tractor that you have is not a popular machine in the Cub world. We as a group tend to deal with pre 1996 vintage stuff. I'm sorry but that's just the reality of how it is. My guess is someone will chime in and try to help but you need to be patient. If I had the answer I'd be happy to help. Anyway Welcome To OCC.

use a volt meter and see if its charging while its running. not familiar with that model or engine but if the batt is dead and its not charging then there would be no power for the lights/pto, this is assuming the engine has a magneto ignition.

So you did or didn't leave the key on all winter? If you did leave the key on, I would expect it to be dead. Your hour meter was running till the battery gave up, your probably due for an oil change.

The battery may be bad and sucking up everything the alt produces. Try disconnecting the battery and hooking jumper cables to your car and see if everything comes back. Does the battery hold a charge, have you charged the battery? You're going to need to get the battery charged or replaced if bad so you can troubleshoot where the problem is. You will need a meter and preferably a wiring diagram to trace where the voltage stops. Maybe someone else can help with the wire diagram for that model.

If everything does come back with a charged battery, be sure to check voltage while running likes Tim said to be sure it's charging.

Yes as Bill pointed out if the battery is junk it could be robbing all the power that's being produced, best bet is to start with a new bat and then start to trouble shoot if the problem is still present.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
