Default New to Cubs

Picked up a Cub Cadet 1650 Hydrostatic in a barn here in Northern Michigan recently. No mower deck or implements but it does run and moves. Well it did for a bit anyway. Appears to be a 1975 unit. Has ags on the rear and possibly original tires on the front. Has the original Kohler 16 in it. Missing the baffles and dust box from the engine and the mowerdeck. It has been used hard and put away worse. Had it running for a few hours and shut it off and and now it will not start. Checking to see if the nuetral switch is , or even still there. Thanks for looking. RJ

The 1650 is a great Tractor.
When you say it won't start again, do you mean the engine is not turning over or its turning over and not starting?
Check all your grounds, from the battery, then there should be one from the frame over to the engine.
Just someplace to start.
A lot of the guys won't be on here till this evening, so post anything you find out and they will be able to help you from there.

It does nothing. I can jump the solenoid and it will crank over. I could put a push button switch on it but I prefer not to. I believe it to be one of three things. The ignition switch, the front PTO switch or the neutral safety switch. It turned cool last night and I haven't gotten back out to get to it yet. Thanks for the starting point I'm going back out as soon as it gets a little warmer. Thanks. RJ

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
