Default 782 Charging Question

My 782's charge indicator usually shows charging while running. After adjusting the PTO brake plate and clutch, now when running, the charge needle shows significant discharge.

Did similar after replacing my front oil seal a month ago. I had reinstalled the PTO, adjusted and ran tractor. It showed slight discharge while running, then after about a hour run time, needle started showing charge.

Doesn't sound right to me, but what are your thoughts?

If the PTO is off, the problem should be unrelated. More than likely your v-reg lost it's ground connection. Put a DVOM on the battery and see if the alternator is charging.

I meant to say that while engine is running w/o PTO engaged, the needle is in center of the gauge. While PTO is engaged, the needle significantly moves and stays on the Discharge side; about one notch. When PTO is shut off, needle moves back to center position. Nothing was changed other than adjusting the clearances of the PTO clutch.

Where do I place the DVOM leads to check? Positive battery post and...where?

Engine off, battery at 12.56 DCV.

Operational test at 3 prong lead with engine WOT:
42 ACV from stator leads
12.5 DCV from center lead to ground

My conclusion: rectifier/regulator needs to be replaced.

42 volts AC sounds high to me. Think it should be around 30
