On my Super, the brackets that clamp to the axle tubes had moved a little .I noticed the marks on the paint .I don't know how they moved but it did make a difference.I pulled it all apart cleaned everything and readusted the rods. Just a thought ,hope you find what works for you.

Scott,

Any advice on where I should start for making the 1811 adjustment you're suggesting? The brakes on mine are completely non-functional at this time. There is an enormous amount of slack in the linkage.

I haven't really investigated it much since my property is fairly level and the brake pedal still brings the hydro to neutral which thus far has stopped the tractor easily. It appears the pads and caliper assembly are fine as well.

So I'm thinking in reality someone just slackened the linkage since all of the safety switches have also been by passed by the PO. The safety switches I have no issues with, but I could see needing the brakes if I ever find myself using the tractor elsewhere.

Any advice would be most helpful. Thanks.

If you do what murphycc is suggesting, I'd lose the aluminum brake mounting brackets and get either welded steel ones from an IH-built tractor with external brakes, or the cast iron ones from a super. I think those springs are there to protect the aluminum brake caliper mounts. They aren't as strong. The springs stretch slightly so the linkage isn't stretching the caliper mounts as much.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
