Repairs of the 2086
Yesterday I started tearing the 2086 apart to repair a nasty crank seal leak on the flywheel side and replace the plastic cam gear in the Kawasaki. While I have the engine out I plan to replace the lifters, pushrods, water pump, all the hoses, and go through the carb. Also while the motor is out I'm going to run the lines for a set of front hydraulic outlets and a second valve. I drive shaft is in need of some service so I plan to disassemble the joints to clean and grease them. I am have trouble getting the boots to separate from the rest of the coupling, is there a trick to get them apart without destroying the boots, they appear to be in good shape? When it gets back together I have a new grill and a better hood to put on. Been collecting parts all winter.

I use a scraper between the CV joint and the boot, it has a metal ring molded into the rubber.

I see the seam but wasn't sure if the ring was part of the boot or part of the coupler body, at $25 a piece I didn't want to tear up a perfectly good boot. Any particular type of grease for the joint, I'm sure this has been discussed but I can't find a thread that talks about it. Not a lot of information on the Kawasaki powered tractor on this forum, have to rely on a greener site.

Some people use CV joint grease, I just use Mobil1 because that's what I use on all my stuff. Grease it a couple time during the season and you should be fine. Yep you will probably find more info on the Kawi on WFM.
