The 1810 takes a 925-3026 Ignition Switch. Although the switches "appear" the same, the terminal arrangements are in the same orientation....BUT.....totally different internally. Two different animals altogether.
Get the right switch and you will be happy.

More proof. I pulled the new switch this eve, and closely compared it to the old one. While the spade pattern was the same, the base of the spades were riveted in different locations.
I could see corrosion that could have bridged the base of 2 terminals, so I got out a wire brush and contact cleaner and decided to retry the old switch just for kicks. When turning the switch on, the oil light did not light, and there were no other signs of "life", but the fuse held without blowing. I then decided to jumper the solenoid again with the old switch in place, and the Magnum 18 sprung to life and I mowed. I'll locate the proper switch and update if this results in a complete fix. Thanks guys! Now maybe Jonathan and crew can help me troubleshoot my Wi-Fi!!! LOL!

Well I may not have gotten to the bottom of this yet. Now with the bad ignition switch still in place, I can still jump start the motor with the key in the run position. But now the PTO doesn't work. I see the red lead from the S terminal on the ignition switch feeds power to the PTO switch, so this could still be the bad ignition switch giving me trouble (or I have really bad luck).

There are two different wiring diagrams for the 1810, depending on the chassis serial number range. What is your chassis serial number...???

__________________ Bingo, we have a winner. Here's the deal, you more than likely have a used up worn out switch. It's only about 30 years old and it should go for at least another 20 years but it is what it is. Let us know what happens when you replace it with the proper new switch. Only other suggestion I can give you is to get a copy of the wiring diagram and a test meter and have at it. Sorry if I sound like an A-hole to you.

Sam, I do have a test light and a schematic, so if I find time before the new switch arrives, I may start testing. Had to do a radiator flush on one of the cars after work this evening instead. Too many irons in the fire...
I don't think you're an A-hole. I appreciate very much you and the guys helping me, I stumble much less with your guidance. And I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer (even getting duller as I age), so I'm sorry if my slowness to pick things up irritates some of you. I'll try and rant less and keep my posts more to the point. R Bedell, good to know about the 2 different schematics, I'll have to check my chassis serial number... Thanks!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
