That is true ,I have a m18 that has a external fuel pump and it would let fuel drain back to the tank over night .found it by clamping of the fuel line to check the fuel from draining back to the tank .

This may sound silly but did you check your choke cable linkage? My149 was very tough starting without some help and I found a small bend where the cable hooks to the choke on the carb that wasn't allowing the choke to close completely. Maybe no help for you but it did wonders for my machine. Mark

Hello I sorry my post from 2 days ago didn't show up. My fuel pump was replaced two years ago . The old fuel pump also flooded my old oil with gas. The tractor needs the ether to start from a cold start. It runs fine after the cold start and start instantly the rest of the day. Monday I added more tension to the throttle cable and it ran well. I'll check the choke cable and see what it's doing. Thanks

How old is the fuel? If more then a couple of months drain and replace.

If you pull the cover off the air filter and give it a little shot of gas down the carb throat will it start? I hate using ether.

Non-chlorinated brake cleaner works well and isn't hard on the engine.

I always use fresh fuel and don't buy larger amounts of non-ethanol and usually don't fill tank over halfway. I have to crank from cold start the way you have described but I have not had time to check the chocke adjustment yet.

Still waiting for an answer to post # 15. If that is too much trouble keep shooting ether in it to start and when it tosses a rod we'll see you in the engine section. If you think I'm being an A hole so be it.

I saw post 15 this evening when I last posted so I'll see if it will try the carb cleaner tomorrow and see if it will respond since I have made some adjustments. I'm sorry if you did not notice that I tried answer you in last post that I already crank the engine that way carb cleaner wasn't doing it before I raised the tension on the throttle. Sorry the answer was not to your satisfaction but I hope it is now. Also the gas didn't seem make fire when cold either

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
