Peerless Transaxle Lube
Does anybody know if synthetic gear oil can be used in a Peerless transaxle and if so what viscosity? If that isn't a good idea, what is the correct lubricant to use in this transaxle? Thanks for the advice.

Use EP2 grease like the stuff you put in a grease gun. I like to use high temperature grease but it probablyy doesn't matter. With the grears in the case, just star pumping it in or squeasing it out of the tube, Just be sure to get the grese packed all around under and in everything in the case. Also, I( like to grease where the shifter comes out too. A small engine mechanic I know even likes to drill and tap for a greas zerk so he can fill them up with a couple of squirts occasionally.

If this is the 2300 series Peerless that's on the 1100, 482, 582 Special etc., then the recommended lube is 80/90 weight gear oil. The dyno oil works just fine in these transaxles, and should last a long time without changing it. If it's the lighter duty series, then I'm not sure.
