I haven't installed mine yet, but will the grease ultimately erode the rubberoid barrels? I was thinking I'd use some light tape to just hold them until I get the shaft in place.

I've never had any problems. I learned this trick from a Cub dealer years ago. Pretty sure the barrels are some sort of plastic.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens.
