steve149 asked me earlier today what spray gun id recommend to someone looking to do some painting at home, i blindly suggested the devilbiss starting line which is a lower end gun from a pretty big name gun company. i didn't really like the fact that i recommended something based off what others have told me and not my own personal experience so i spent some coin and got the 2 gun set pictured and heres my review.
1. whats in the box as you can see in the pic the kit includes 2 complete spray guns( one for primer and one for paint ) an air regulator, cleaning brushes, gun wrench, alternate fluid tip&needle. the primer gun ( the all silver one ) comes with a 1.8 fluid tip which i promptly changed out for the extra 1.5 tip, 1.8 is simply to large for most automotive grade primers. the paint gun comes with a 1.3 fluid tip which is perfect for spraying single stage paint. 2. build quality the fit and finish on the guns was better than i expected for the price i paid, the machine work looks well done and all the adjustment knobs turn smoothly. the only thing i really didn't care for was the lack of texture on the air cap which made it hard to remove while wearing thinner soaked latex gloves. 3. spray performance i used the primer gun to prime 2 cars this afternoon and it sprayed really nice, the primer went on nice and smooth with very little texture which is the way i like it. ( makes it easier to wetsand later ) i used the paint gun to spray both epoxy primer and valspar enamel, it sprayed both with out issue and i was pleased with how smooth the paint went on. the gun sprayed with a nice even pattern which made it easy to produce a smooth glossy finish. 4. specs and pricing the kit i have pictured can be had right around $150 which is really good considering you get 2 guns and a cleaning kit and a nice little case to keep it in. the air requirements for this gun is 30psi at 13cfm so make sure your compressor can handle it before purchase. 5. final thoughts while the gun doesn't spray quite as nice as some higher end guns it also didn't cost $800 either, you get what you pay for but in this case i think you get way more than you pay for. after using this gun and seeing its performance i have no problem recommending it to anybody looking to paint there cubs or even a hot rod.

Nice write up Tim as this question is asked a lot. I'm a fan of the carrying case too plus both guns. How's the weight of them as compared to what you're used to? Is there a big difference in weight with hvlp guns with plastic reservoirs vs these that have metal?
I'd like to see a shoot out with this gun vs the purple Harbor Freight gun that a lot of us rookies buy. Kudos to you ![]() I would say this can go in the tools section as well.

the cup is aluminum but even with the metal cup its still lighter than my sata jet, the gun itself isnt built as big and heavy as the sata's.
i dont often make it to harbor freight but next time i do i will pick up one of there guns and see how it does.

Good write up! I've never used that gun, but have used the small sata hvlp and the $30 harbor freight one. The harbor freight gun is easy to use. Can be kinda touchy to adjust. It will really lay the paint on! So careful or you will run it. Mine has a 1.4 tip. I've shot epoxy with it a acrylic enamel and urethane with it. It loves urethane since it has a larger tip. The sata I use has a 1.0 tip. I've painted quite a lot with the harbor freight gun and like it. Not bad for $30! I was surprised how well it works really. I really like the disposable paint cups. They do have a tendency to leak, so we cut some gaskets out of a thin piece of rubber. Here's a pic of one like I have.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
