Gear Drive Oil
What type of lubricant should be run in a gear drive? I've heard people using hy-tran but I thought that was just for Hydrostats. Would good gear oil work?

i run 80w90 gear oil in all my gear drives.

I believe the original IH specs say 30 wt oil in the gear drives..
But like Tim said... I run 80W90 in mine.. never had an issue

I run Hy-tran in my 1200. If it's good enough for the big IH tractors, it's good enough for these. Hy-tran is not just for hydros. IH tractors used it for their transmissions, rear end, final drives and hydraulic fluid. That's all I use. My 2cents
