Default Is it possible to squeeze an Onan Performer 20 into a 1782?

Hey guys! Wel here's the story, my friend gave a 1782 with a blown kubota deisel. so all this time I've kept it on the back burner cuz of the cost to over haul her. but yesterday i picked up a oposed onan performer 20. I was kinda hopping of the possibility of getting the onan into the 1782! So just wondering if there's anyone out there who's done anything like this before? Thanks!

Depending on the spec of the engine, it will be exactly the same as making it a gasoline version of that same machine. (982, 1872, 2072) You will need an engine plate and will have to rewire the machine.

I'd fix the diesel. What's wrong with it anyway? They don't actually "blow up" very often. All too many times they are misdiagnosed.

Well i can't say for sure what's wrong with it, manes are really bad you can mobve the crank up and down at least a quarter inch. on top of that it locks up after you turn it so far over. I got a quote from a mechanic for a thousand do have her back on the road. thars why i was wondering about the onan cuz I've only got 70 bucks in her so far.

Your mechanic is off. If you can move the crank up and down that much, $1000 won't buy the parts. I've overhauled a few of them..... Yeah, it sounds bad.

It's not a bad deal to jab the Onan in it. Just make sure the configuration is correct for a Cub Cadet.

Yeah i wondered if the news might be grim......i think the onan is gonna work! Set it in the frame, for the hydro shaft to like up nicely ill have to move the engine forward about an inch. the biggest hurdle will be to figure oout a way of extending the shaft, and a wiring harness.

Should just be able to contact one of the sponsors and get parts off of any of the aforementioned machines. Our member JeffinPA also makes drive shafts. It should be a very easy conversion.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
