Thought I'd give a short update. I got swamped with a lot of work over the past few days and haven't been able to do anything with the 105. So far i have the carbon cleaned off the head and the block. I'm a fan of the ideas you guys have for taking the valves out, I'm gonna try once I get some more time, possibly this weekend. Anyway I noticed the piston has 030 engraved in, so I assume this blocks been bored out to +.030? Lastly I want to sand down the head to make sure it seals properly but I heard that some people use a large piece of glass, I don't have one laying around is there any other way to sand it evenly?

Take it to a machine shop or buy the piece of glass.

I like your ideas George and Mike! I can just imagine how that would go over
![]() Here's another update: I finished cleaning the carbon off the head and the block. I also sanded down the head so that it is flat. Next step I'm doing is taking out the valves, measuring the margin and grinding them and the seats. I'm going to start that over the weekend. Before putting the head back on I'm gonna chase the threads for the head bolts. Anything else I should do before putting it back together? |

U might be able to ask any auto parts store about renting or borrowing a valve spring compressor tool also.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
