Default Tis' the season for snowblower questions (450)

Hello All, I've got a 450 snowblower and I have a question pertaining to the PTO shaft in the gearbox (shaft with the pulley on it). My gearbox has been leaking grease for a couple years. Well I decided to replace the all the bearings and seals and now I have a significant amount of end play on the PTO shaft of the gear box. When I disassembled everything pretty much fell apart and it didnt appear that anything on that shaft is press fit, it all seems to be slip fit or a very very light press fit. I'm assuming the bolt and washer on the opposite end of the PTO shaft is how you adjust the end play out I just can't seem to get it to work with everything moving around. The bearings move in their pockets and the shaft moves fairly easily through the sprocket and the bearings. Someone please help!!!! Thanks in advance

Sounds like you may have left out a snap ring or washer

No Sir, all the parts are accounted for per this diagram. I thought for sure I was missing something but alas I am not.

Are you positive #5 is there. With snap ring #20 and #7 washer and #8 bolt nothing should slide back and forth on the shaft. If the bearings are sliding back and forth in the pockets they sit in add more washers with #5 until the play is gone. Best I got.

i'm positive everything is there. when you tighten bolt 8 it pulls on the shaft and pulls the bearing on the opposite side in. I was figuring on adding something to take up the space between the gear and the bearing. But I was wondering if anyone else ran into this problem and how they addressed it. The gears and one of the shafts are NLA from MTD. so I don't want to risk damaging it.
