parts machine
Picked up an Ariens tractor today. Has a 54 inch blade that is very similar to a Haban blade. Its been sitting outside for quite a while. Has a new starter on the k-241 engine. Got it home put a battery in it and a temporary gas tank and it fired right up. A little smoke upon acceleration but otherwise it sounds great! Planning on keeping the engine, wheels and blade. I think with a little work the blade can be made to work on a cub. Also a set of chains, not bad for $ 75. Do you guys think a set of rings would stop the smoking?

Is the smoke white or black? If white, a set of rings and cylinder honing might help if the cylinder is not worn beyond the wear limits. If the smoke is black, the carb is out of adjustment and running too rich.

The engine in my 100 did the same thing. The rings were shot. It would burn about 6oz of oil per hour of run time.
