Greetings!
It has been a while since I had the pleasure of bringing a cub back to life, but I finally got to write another chapter A couple years ago a friend at church showed me this picture. ![]() He asked if I knew about it, and then informed me it was for sale and that I should buy it. I called the guy, he wanted $500 for it, running. I grabbed the cash and headed that way the next morning. When he found out I was a collector, the price dropped a little, and he was happy the tractor was going to a good home. I got the tractor home, it was ROUGH. It had the usual quietline issues, nothing out of the ordinary. I spend several hours doing the basic tuneup stuff, timing, carb, decarbon the head etc. It refused to run nicely, so I parked it in the shipping container beside the garage. It spent 2 winters in there before I drug it out last week. I figured that my problems must lie with the valves, so off came the head and all of that, to get to the valves. I did a serious lapping, and lo and behold it ran, a little better. Once I knew the engine showed some hope, i pulled it out, to fix the quietline problems, so I could actually use the tractor. Nothing new here, but quietline guys,if you havent yet... CHECK YOUR MOUNTS!! ![]() ![]() ![]() Anyway, welded up the cradle, removed and cleaned the pan, made up some nice hard plastic mounts, and shoved the kohler back in its rightful place. ![]() After that I built my own muffler sort of deal. It isnt that quiet, but provides directional control, and doesnt stick out the side like the abomination it had earlier. I guess i dont have any pics of the tractor before i did the work. It had a 70-100 typer pot muffler sticking out the left side, covering the cast grille mount in soot. Ah, PO stuff ![]() ![]() Then i fought and fought and fought with the carb. It would work great, then leak like crazy. Then it would work...then leak. Turns out when I did the carb a few years ago I didnt blow out the elbow above the needle, it was full of little rubber bits. then I noticed the float was sunk. AHA! So I replaced that, and all is well. The tractor shakes like crazy at anything other than idle or WOT, But it runs good and has decent power. After all that I wanted to take the old girl for a ride. But see, I live where snow falls, and the old turf tires would do no good. So I grabbed another set of quat tires from the shed, put a few gallons of windsheild washer antifreeze in them and... ![]() ![]() Add a new seat, and we are ready for work!!

Used some oven cleaner to get the soot off of the front casting, and did some serious playing in the snow. Loaded quad tires and a 14hp Cub cadet is more than enough to go traipsing through a foot of snow
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Questions?! Thanks for looking!

They are the ITP mud lites. 26x10x12 I think. I have a couple pairs. 2 in this size, 2 in 23 10 12. they make great plowing tires! they will fit 9 gallons of windsheild washer fluid, each loaded tire weighs about 100 pounds.

Looks like you've been busy! You got a good deal. Deck and tiller look to be in great shape, least paint wise. Yeah those ISO mounts are toast. I used moog rubber bushings on my 1211. I use oven cleaner on my Cubs too, always makes me nervous I'm gonna strip the paint. Your muffler looks good! Mine went to crap and made a straight pipe. Isn't really much louder.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
