Default HyTran or Drive System Fluid - Cub Cadet 3185

So I have been doing a bunch of snow blowing with my 3185 and see that the tranny fluid is at the add mark. I look at the paperwork for the work I had done this summer and see that they used HyTran. I called another dealer, not going back to the one that did the work for various reasons and the other dealer says that hytran is not the right stuff. #@#$^@#^$ and that it is supposed to be drive system fluid.

So the dealer filled the tranny with the wrong fluid I guess?

Can someone confirm that drive system fluid is correct. When I look this up in the manual it says: see your local cub cadet dealer.

Thanks

Sean

The Dealer is correct. Per the Owners Manual, use: 737-3055----> 737-3120

Sorry dont know why I didnt see that in the manual.

I called cub. They also confirmed. And I was able to look at the oil with them and looks like contrary to the invoice it was filled with oil and not hytran. I guess hytran is pink from what he said.

Also....they said no need to use drive system fluid and that I could use any 10w-40 synthetic as a replacement for drive system fluid. He said he was a Valvoline guy ;-).

I am a ways from a cub dealer so I am going to top off with 10w-40 syn from the gas station. Let me know if there is any reason that is a bad idea.

Thanks for all your help.

Not to argue with cub but some hytrans is pink/red and some is more of a brown color, we've had members post up pics of hytrans with one quart being pink and the other brown. I think to be on the safe side you should drain it completely and replace it with your fluid of choice, more importantly you need to figure out where the fluid is going for it to be low.

Just an opinion here, and you know what they say about them.
Since you have it from mother cub that synthetic 10-40 oil is ok,
just top it off now as you are just adding a small amount, and when you think it needs changing, go with your choice.
Not to disagree with anyone, just my thoughts,
Olds is correct on the oil being red/pink or brown,-- been hashed out here before.
possibly different suppliers to cub???
I would for sure stay with synthetic though as it is a better oil.
cheers!

I used HyTran a year or so ago and a new filter. No problems.

Drain and new filter. Fill with your choice of fluid. I picked up a gallon at TSC.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
