painted the diff gloss black, not sure if that was a good idea or not. seems too shiny. its on the way back together though.
![]() gotta put the axles back in and the rear cover and then I can fill it and try it. ![]() I hope it works, I'm going to pickup a vanguard 16 motor in the morning for it, not that it needs a motor just want another cub with that motor. Then maybe some tru-powers, etc. I plan on getting the motor, driveshaft, and motor plate. maybe the throttle and choke cable as well. hopefully I won't need much else for it.

My guess is that the rear was replaced at some point in it's life with a rear from an earlier machine. It should have the large tubes for the axles. No big deal you'll just need seals from something like a 1872.

Yes I did drill the case for the drains, as well as a vent tube. that far in might as well! I did get ahead of myself a little and didn't install any braces yet, but I have a mod for them in my head that I haven't had time to do yet, and I wanted to make sure it was all working before today's trip.
I just got back from a 3hr one way trip, and even longer trip on the way back due to traffic and being friday, but it was worth it. I picked up a 1641 motor, driveshaft, shrouds, and also the hydro valve and cylinder for a spare. The only thing I didn't get that I probably should have was the wiring harness and batt cables. Will I need to modify the 1862 harness much to install it? I'm figuring its mostly just different length kinda mods, but if its something else, let me know. There wasn't a pto on it, so I guess I'll need to hunt up one of those bushings everyone has been using for their swaps. Is that something engine warehouse will sell separately, or do I need to machine one? I'm not in a hurry to install this motor, just been looking for one awhile. I plan on getting it all running and bugs worked out of everything else and then swap it at a later time.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
