782 installing mule drive
Not certain if I have a problem with the mule drive or the tractor. Put the mule drive back on the 782 we are resurrecting yesterday. It was very tight going over the frame at the front. The 2 hangers under the middle of the tractor were not in line with the lift, I had to pry the mule drive over to get a cotter pin in the one on the pedal side. The other one seems shifted in the same direction. The mower deck has been replaced so I don't have any obvious clues this machine took a real hard hit sideways. At first inspection everything appear to be assembled correct. Haven't noticed anything bent on the mule drive, the way its welded that assembly is quite stout. One of the pivot bolts on the front had been replaced with a 1/4" bolt. I thought the PO just put in what he had, now I am thinking they used a smaller bolt to allow for more flex. FWIW, there is a ton of wear where the lift links hook to the tractor. Anyone ever ran into one of these not lining up like it should?

That doesn't sound right... I'm thinking something is tweaked. It doesn't take much at the front to make it WAY out in the back. The wear on the lift links could indicate a problem also. The one on my 782 slides right under and hooks up just like all my yellow cubs do. It does have a lot of wear due to many hours though. Do you have another mower frame that you could slide under for comparison?

Good idea to see if it is seated evenly up front--I had to bump it in place with my dead blow hammer. Yes I do have another mule drive on a 682 parts machine I could slide under for comparison. I'll try to take a pic or 2 if I get back to working on it this afternoon. Going to get a crispy 1810 donor tractor with a reasonable deck I can use for parts on this and my 1811.

If your 682 mule drive assembly doesn't fit correctly then at least you'll know it's something to do with the 782. Mine have always slid right on and lined up with the lift arms in the middle.

Far as we know its the one that came with it, but to be more specific, it was the one that was being used when the driveline took a dump many years back. Its been off the machine so long we don't remember if anything seemed unusual about taking it off. Once I get the deck in operable condition I'll see if anything looks out of the ordinary with the mule drive.
