so I have a 1050, that runs, but smokes some and the carb is non-adjustable. I also have a 1862 that runs like a top, but I have a vanguard motor I plan on swapping into that one at some point.
I am thinking of installing the kohler 18 out of that into the 1050, and am trying to think of all the parts I'd need to make the swap. so far I have: Driveshaft different length clutch linkage different length. (anyone know the measurements of an 1806 one?) motor plate from the 1862 should bolt in Might have to change a bit of wiring anything I might be missing or not thinking of?

Well I guess this has never been attempted, so I'll order up a new driveshaft and plow into it in a couple weeks. can't be too hard to figure out.

Just thinking but you might have to put a stronger spring behind the clutch to handle the extra torque from the M18.

Should be pretty straight forward. Look at the parts book for an 1806. Compare parts on a 1050.

But I have a question upon reading this again.... If the 1862 motor runs like a top, why would you take it out to put another engine in, then take that motor and put it into the 1050? Why go to all that trouble??? The Kohler in the 1050 is an easy rebuild, and you would still have another engine. Seems like a lot of work for no reason to me. If nothing else, why not put the VG in the 1050?

Just not a fan of single cyl motors. I know they're simpler, but I like the sound of the twin. I'd trade my 1050 for a 1806, or even an 782.
I like the metal hood 82 series, especially the red ones, but most people want a bar of gold for the red ones. If I do the swap I'd just put the 10hp on the shelf with the extra parts, so it could be returned stock later if someone wanted to. So what kind of pics you want? the 1050 is pretty rough looking, as its been outside most of its life. I had to get new clutch pressure plates for it when I bought it, they were rusted away so bad. the clutch and driveshaft assembly was out and laying on the mower deck.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
