Default Blades don't engage

Hello all.

I have a Cub 1515. When I pull the PTO knob, nothing happens. Any ideas? Thanks

Lot's of possibilities in no particular order.

1: PTO switch is bad
2: Bad safety switch or switches
3: Bad fuse.
4: Wiring problem
5: PTO clutch is shot.

Time to get out the meter and start tracing where you have power and where you don't.

Add to the list, belt fell off and tensioner broke/inop.

Today I went to look at it again. I tried to start it and it did nothing. then I remembered that I pulled the wire off the back of the switch, placed it back on and the tractor started. does that tell me anything?

I did have a meter with me yesterday and when I was putting the probes in the slots on the piece that attaches to the switch
I was getting a reading on some combinations and no reading on others does that tell me anything.

Doesn't tell me anything. I don't know what wires you found power on and what ones you didn't.

You can't just probe and guess, you have to be methodical.

Unplug the PTO wire, turn the key to the "ON" position (leave engine off). Set someone, or something heavy in the seat. Turn the PTO to the "ON" position and test and see if power is going to the coil. If not, then continue testing backwards until you find the issue.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
