Default Draft Dodger passed away last weekend.

Viet Nam was era of my life. Had a few close friends give up their lives for it.
I knew of NO-ONE that ever refused. Many didn't want to but they DID.
I scratch my head thinking that so much honor is given to a DRAFT DODGER????

Copy that!
But...I recall that one was elected POTUS back a few years ago!!
And he still gets more than his share of attn.

Yesterday was D-DAY
Virtually wall to wall coverage of Mr. Clay and none about the heroes of June 6, 1944.

I guess most people don't care about it anymore. Now we have one running for president and it hardly gets mentioned.

I also saw NOTHING on D-day yesterday. Lots of people falling all over the memory of Mr. Ali, though. I'm too young to remember his best fights but I remember a few of his later ones. He was quite the entertainer

Whilst I do not believe topics like this, nor opinions expressed really have a place here on OCC, I do believe that if a can is opened...I feel compelled to throw in my two cents, for saying nothing does in some ways show agreement and complicity for which I have none.

For the matter of the subject, "Draft Dodger" a post like this was obviously written by a white man, for if the roles and the skin color were reversed for a man of the 60's, would the opinions hold?

If the writer of this post was a black man of the 60's, would he still go to war and die for a country who until the later part of that same decade didn't allow that same man to drink from the same water fountain, eat in the same restaurant, walk on the same sidewalk, sit in the same bus seat, go to the same schools? Would he die for a country who treated his father and mother like fourth class subjects where a dog would have better social status? Would he stand for that? Would he stand for watching his sisters and brothers being ridiculed and looked down upon because of the colour of their skin? Would he die for that? Would he feel compelled to die for country that DID NOT SEE HIM AS A MAN in the same way as a white man? Hell no. Would he die for a country who's justice system was so skewed that merely looking at a white woman the wrong way would either land him in jail or at the end of a rope?

I applaud Cassius Clay/Muhammad Ali for his stand and know that utterly millions of people around the world do too, people who understand the terrible things that were done to his people in the name of segregation and the Jim Crow laws.

If this "white man" feels that his situation would be different, than the whiteness of his skin color has indeed blinded him.

I am very local to Cassius Clay. Where he was born. Where he started to fight and where he became famous.

He was a terrific fighter. Good entertainment! I watched every one of his early fights. Then, he applied for concientious objector status and got it under the same guide lines as everyone else that was granted the same status.

I didn't see it that way at the time. I thought he was just ducking military duty and I was very disappointed in him.

Reflecting on his life since that time, his actions have shown that his feelings about the military were honorable and sincere. No need for me to enumerate these things. It's all over the news.

Honkey.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
