engine spec tag said made year 1979 history unknown, starts and runs good no power issues mowed with it last season before I restored it.
I was under the impression these units held some collector value guess not!
Not interested in losing money, material, labor on it, just wanted to know value.
Thanks!

There are essentially 3 types of buyers for a machine like that.

First there is the guy that wants to cut his grass and doesn't care how perfect the machine is. He just knows older Cadets are good quality. He also knows he can go buy a new decent mower for less than $2k--its not the quality of yours but everything is new, not rebuilt and will last a long time if properly used and maintained.

Second is the old lawn mower enthusiast. He may or may not want to use it. He also knows old lawnmowers are a money pit regardless of the brand. This kind of fellow hangs out on forums like this one. He is probably not opposed to user upgrades and improvements.

Third type of buyer is a die-hard IH collector. He wants a IH Cub Cadet to go along with the rest of his equipment. It would probably be a show machine only. He probably wants it put back original right down to the tire tread. To him the Series 1 engine is important. Paint scheme and decal placement need to be correct as well. This guy will pay the most money usually.

Just my $.02. By the way, that is a really nice looking mower you have!

If that's the original engine with nothing done to the engine, then you could sink quite a bit into over hauling it or replacing it. 37 yr old engine is going to have wear. Not trying to beat you down, but it gonna affect the price. I don't care how pretty it is.

if it was knocking, smoking, or underpowered, I would replace or rebuild it, but that's not the case someone has change oil regularly and never used it on a steep incline which would affect oiling on that engine.

Guess I am going to fit it in category 2 and hang on to it! Thanks!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
