Default New from Central NC

Hello, Name is James. I recently came into an 07 Cub Cadet SLT1554. It was given to me because the owner stated the hydro trans was shot. Got it back to the house and cleaned it up a little bit. It say for about 6 years outside. Did some tinkering and got her running and driving. The deck was off and laying flat on the ground so that is the biggest issue now. The deck is basically rusted out in alot of places. I have tried to find a 50 or 54" replacement, and have been unsuccessful thus far. I have a couple spare cheap mowers around that I am probably going to attempt to patch and fix the deck on it. We will see how it goes, unless I can locate a replacement for cheap...

It has some small things it needs replacing that I am planning on taking care of over the next winter. Tires, Starter, starter solenoid, battery, blades and blade spindles. Then some other little things. Hoping to find more information about his machine and maybe do some upgrades to increase the longevity of this mower. Heck it only has 140 hours.

Very cool! I didn't know how many people would be located her in NC. Hopefully there are a few more!

Y'all keep an eye out for a deck for a 50 or 54" lawn mower. I am counting on my rebuild of my deck going ok, but not sure how long it will last.

Definitely a bunch of folks from NC!

I hit the jackpot too, found a guy in my neck of the woods (Raleigh address) with a deck off of a GT1554. Only had a split in it from something, needed a spindle, and the tensioner bracket. Got it on and it cuts like a dream. Deck sits a bit lower, but I have Bermuda grass so it gets cut short anyways. Oh did I mention it had the striping kit with it? $150. It did have some surface rust, but I knocked off the heavy stuff and flat blacked it for now. Don't know if I will paint it cub yellow or not....

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
