Ok I have some old cubs.
My 100 has the 10 hp engine still in it . Getting very hard to start . turns and turns and finally starts . Smokes some . Same on the 124 . Question is do I rebuild the 10 or 12 hp engine . I will only be using the 100 at this time for mowing about 1 acre . Also I've checked out some rebuild kits on ebay for around $100.00 or so . What and where should I go for getting machine work if needed done ? Oh I'am just north of Kansas city missouri . I do work all over the greater KC area . It's been years since I have had any machine work done . Last place I used went out of business. Also I do not have a problem with shipping the parts out . As with gas now days I spend 10 bucks just going to the city and back . Both engines are still in the cubs . thanks in advance Dr mac |

I'm a huge fan of "more power" if it were me I would probably rebuild the 12 HP and put it in the 100.
I don't know anything about the kits on epay so I'm no help there. Any reputable automotive type machine shop should be able to do the work for you. I also think some of the guys on this site do machine work too, you may get a hit from someone here. |

I agree with YS. I'd rebuild the 12, and install it in the 100. When the 10 hp goes in my 100, I'll replace it with a 12 hp engine.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
