Default Expanded view of outboard spindle on 50C deck

Anybody have an illustrated parts breakdown on the mandrel itself?

I was mulching leaves when I heard this awful squealing, metal on metal sound coming from the mower deck. I thought it would probably be the bearing in the idler that dried up and gave up. I was wrong. The pulley on the outboard spindle mandrel is loose on the shaft and I found a woodruff key that looks like it ran into a grinding wheel on multiple locations on this key.

I need to know how this mandrel is assembled. Help please!

Thanks, Steve with a boat-load of leaves ready for mulching and a broken mower deck.

Thanks guys. I did try partstree - I was looking for more detail than they show. I didn't know it was a waterpump bearing type mandrel.

A friend stopped by just as I finished my post asking for help. He has several Cub Cadets and helped me get it apart. Time to buy parts. The shaft bearings are fine but the shaft is shot and so is the pulley and key.

I will shop for parts tomorrow.

BTW, of all the decks shown in the link I don't see one like mine with 4 wheels plus the antiscalp roller.

Once before I gave the whole number as on my deck tag and someone said it wasn't necessary all 50" decks are the same - well that's not my experience.

FWIW:
The later decks use tapered timken style bearings ( automotive wheel bearings)
Lm11949 & LM 11910 ( cup & cone)
the older water pump style bearings are pricy and come as a unit.

Thanks fellows for the help. I was able to find a used mandrel/spindle and pulley assembly locally for $50.00 which I was happy to pay considering a new unit would have been about 5 times as much.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
