Default 10w 30 the w = ?
The W in 10W30 oil stands for weight or winter ?
Answer = winter ...per the Wall TV SHOW cost a contestant 200k

there was a big grown from the crowd ... I'd say she has a easy $200,000 coming , what would you do with 200.000 $

per Google:

winter
In a 10w-40 for example the 10w bit (W = winter, not weight or watt or anything else for that matter) simply means that the oil must have a certain maximum viscosity/flow at low temperature. The lower the "W" number the better the oil's cold temperature/cold start performance.

some nobody said so, I d guess
I will go to NAPA on the 4th of July
I need 20 winter oil or 20/50 Winter oil tommorrow
And see how that goes

There is no single viscosity with a winter designation. So just '20'.

And the 20/50 Winter oil should be 20 Winter 50.

it's someones silly scheme to change the phrasing ... in the 80's they wanted to talk summer -winter oil
engineering dept.s do not say..." hey give me that 20 winter oil" .

the specific gravity of oil is what differentiates the oil conditions is what is being talked about here ,
10 weight oil is lighter than 20 weight oil
10W40 a variable viscosity oil is supposed to have the propertys of a 10weight oil, when cold and 40 weight when hot

how Winter enters the picture ???

what is winter ? I don't know 3 billion people do not have it ,
you know the tropics , but they have engines and used oil

Petroleum Quality Institute of America refers to the "W" as winter.

When I earned my college degree in Auto Technology many years ago, we were taught the "W" was weight. Times change is guess, and not always for the better.
