Default Newbi from Montana

Well moved here from Phoenix, bought a house Dec 20 Snowed 14 inches the day I moved in. Welcome to Montana. The house came with a LT 1050 with 80 hours on it. From what I have gathered from this forum, this tractor is junk, so looking to sell. Can you guys give me some model years when good Cub Cadet tractors were produced? Thanks

First, welcome to OCC.........

In answer to your question, the IH built tractors were bulit from 1960-1980, the the 82 Series being the last run.

In 1980, IH sold their Cub Cadet Line to MTD, and formed Cub Cadet Corp (aka - CCC).

MTD/CCC basically used the IH design and components through 1990, when the MTD/CCC designed and used their engineering. That remains today.

If you are a IH purist, then any model before 1980.

If you want IH engineering but not a purist, then a model before 1990.

Hope that answers your question.

Welcome
To add to Roland's list just a little there are some good tractors made after 1990 in the Super Garden Tractor line. These are bigger than a standard tractor and I believe all are hydro transmissions and hydro lift. Some are diesel and some are gas but if you have a lot of snow and a rather long driveway and/or over an acre of grass to mow these tractors really shine with more power, larger tires and ease of operation.

1997 was the end of the decent Cubs, 1440, 1641, 1863, 1864, 2086 and the 2284. After that the 3000 series are pretty good.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
