Thanks Sam. I've read your posts and will use them. Was just checking to see if it had to be that specific model or if others will work given that's one of the more expensive options.

Thanks.

You spent nearly 3 weeks working on this tractor, and bought 2 "cheap" regulators that didn't fix it, and now you want to complain about the price to get it fixed? Your really something.......

Saving a buck is what got you in this mess to begin with. Quality costs more. Get used to it.

Besides.... all you have to do is shop around a bit.

No. I bought a faulty direct replacement regulator made by a company that specializes in such.

I asked if other KOHLER regulators would work. If you think more expensive automatically means better, you'll always be looking for more money.

There's a difference between being cheap and being a good steward.

Thanks all for the advice and help. I do appreciate it.

I've been a mechanic for about 20 years. I'm here to tell you, when it comes to parts, more expensive is most always better. Not always, as dealers charge more for parts than part stores do for the exact same parts. That being said, is why I linked you to the Kohler R/R on ebay. Same part, just smaller price tag. Yes, you bought a Stens R/R, which is an aftermarket replacement. Not a name brand part for less. It's literally a cheaper part. Not knocking Stens, as I use them quite often.... but it is a "cheaper" alternative. I don't think $40 for a regulator is too much to spend. You already know what the "cheap" parts are like. There are exceptions to this. Example: engine rebuild kits. The aftermarket kits are an excellent alternative to the high priced OEM kits.

I agree there is a difference between being a good steward, and being cheap. But at this point, your being cheap. Being a good steward is finding the Kohler R/R for $20 less from a different supplier.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
