Check out the ROOF mower that looks like a Jeep! I saw this at the Swap Meet up in Portland, IN last weekend and snapped a few. It was out of my price range. The story that the man told me is that some guy was in Vietnam in the '60's and liked the Jeep, so he made a mower that was like one. He said they were very rare and the one pictured was about $4000. Out of my price range certainly, but the pics were free....Hope you find it interesting! Anyone else know anything about this interesting mower? (See the deck below the machine)? He said a lot of the models (low production run) were snagged up by parks and recreational services.

Around wartime they were produced. Lots of history if you do a quick search. There was a forum I poked around on for awhile about farming with Jeeps. They even had rear PTOs to run pull behind implements.

That price isn't that crazy, they've gone for $4,500 on eBay. They were actually a VERY expensive machine back in the late 60s when they were made, about $1,700. Very cool though, as they were able to mow, and could also do about 20 mph. Not saying I would spend that in one, but they are rare and really cool.

To get a sense of the size of the Roof mower.....aren't there tires on the machine about the same as the rear tires on a Cub Cadet? 23x8.5-12?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
