I would still keep my 982 for regular mowing duties due to the size of my lot. Kinda sucks that I can't mow my ditch with this one unless I can find a re-power with pressure lub on it - then it would have another job on its plate!
MH.- I'am gonna have to go with Matt G. last post. Second of all, how much of a bad deal could it be with a bad motor? What matters is the FACT that the tractor itself is in good shape as well as the deck. Third,; those B&S motors can be found ALL day. First try some of the scrap yards....like I said before, people are TOO lazy anymore and too dumb to know how to fix anything, So they just take the broken lawn tractor to the scrapyard. I myself would stuff a 12 or 14 hp B&S motor in there if the one came up.

I suppose...if a larger engine will fit in the space under the hood, why not put a bigger one in it! I suppose depending on the price, but the extra hp can't hurt?

Personally I would not put anything larger than the 382's 11 hp in there. The trans on these isn't a strong point and putting more power through it isn't going to do it any good. You also don't need any more than that to run the little 36" deck it has.

Well, even an 11hp isn't bad. I remember when I was growing up we had a little 12hp Master Craft tractor and you couldn't kill that sucker! It mowed more grass and hauld more trailer loads of topsoil. If I had a dime for every load of topsoil me & my brother hauled with that thing growing up, we'd certainly be ritch! It seemed every summer about a week before school was done, dad would have a couple tri-axle loads of topsoil dropped off for us to haul and level out some place on the lawn. By the end of summer I was never so sick of seeing top soil & a shovel. Its an ongoing joke still around the kitchen table at home. :biggrin2.gif:

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
