Default No Spark!!!

Ok guys need a little help. My 1282 has no spark. I've replaced the coil, condenser, points, plug, and plug wire. Where should I start looking now? Any help would be much appreciated.

The condenser has to be on the points side of the coil and properly grounded. You also need to run some paper between the points and/or clean them with contact cleaner.

Is the spark plug wire the correct kind (i.e. solid-core)?

Yep Matt everything is hooked up right I cleaned the points before I installed them and the plug wire is brand new from the dealer. Those plug wires aren't cheap!

You might have a defective new part. Try replacing the new parts with the old, one at a time. I'd start with the plug and plug wire.

Turn your engine over until the points are open.
Put a spark plug on the end of the coil wire, to the engine block.
Turn on the key.
Jump across the points with an old screwdriver.
Don't actually short across the points, only the "frame pieces" of the points body. Metal of one point to metal of other point.
It should spark.
If the screwdriver sparks and no plug spark, probably coil.
If no spark at the screwdriver, condenser maybe?
The coil should remain cool through all of this since the circuit is open unless you complete it with the screwdriver. Don't forget to turn the key off though.

Good Luck with it.

I'll give that a try in the morning. On another note my model 70 was suffering the same problem, did the same tune up to it and she fired right up, at least something went right today. thanks for all the help guys, maybe someday I can return the favor.

Well after 2 junk coils from the dealer, and replacing the wire from the coil to the points she's back up and running. The coils tested ok but just would not put out enough juice to make it run. They sure don't make them like they used to. I won't ever buy a new kohler coil that's forsure. I think I'm going to start running bosch blue and see if they're any better. The coil that was on it was only two month old, the one on it now is from a motor I had sitting in the corner and that coil in 45 years old go figure. Thanks again for the help guys.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
