That's the same thing you said back when it happened. At the time we tried different filters and all the tricks everybody posted and nothing worked, we had about 30 minutes of run time on it trying to figure out the issue before I decided to loosen the filter and that got it working instantly. I agree with you that it shouldn't have worked but I saw it with my own eyes.

Only thing I can think of is that a slug of air shot some oil into the pump and it picked up prime. I think you just got lucky more than anything.

Possibly. I've heard it's better to be lucky than good.

I always say I'll take luck any day.

I hope I'm lucky on this problem I have right now. God, I'm frustrated. I rebuilt a trans and it won't move. Hoping I put the pump gears in upside down. (GM 4L80E).

Based off what I've read I think it's time you stop d!cking around and take it to a professional.

LMFAO. What do you do when you are the professional and you goof up?? EAT IT, that's what!

Still don't know what's wrong. It's definitely a pump issue. Going to be hours before I know. You don't just get a tranny out of a 4X4 in a few minutes. 2wd, I can have a tranny out in less than 30 min. Ok.... I used to be able to. I'm older now, lol.

Then just turn the transmission upside down! Problem solved!

Thinking the 4l80's are like the 400 and use a vane pump??
filter inserted into the pump fully?
got pressure @ the tap plug?

Did a 4l60e in a 2000 4x4 burb over christmas, I'm getting old and it was a pain getting @ the top bolt in the bellhousing.
Bastards put a body seam right in the way
It scattered the thrust washer needles in the rear planet gears,--- but @ 200,000++ it is something that happens.
Not the first one I've seen.

Been some time since I rebuilt a 4l80E but... I think the torque converter wont seat if installed backwards

George, it doesn't matter how young or old you are, that body seam is right in the way!! That one bolt is the only one that is near impossible to get at. Wanna know where it ends up after I get it out? If I ever find them I'll let you know!! 5 bolts will hold the trans in. Dowels hold it anyway.

4L80E uses a gear pump. They have a double flat ("tang") drive with an offset. If you put the gear in backwards, when you bolt the T/C to the flex plate, it pulls out of the pump drive tangs. No spinny, spinny.
I switched to a paying job for the rest of the day. The trans is on my truck. Maybe tomorrow I'll feel like pulling it out again. If you guys are interested, I'll give the outcome in another thread.... we derailed this one enough, lol.
