Well, I couldn't help myself. Went and grabbed this Cub 129:
![]() ![]() She came with a big 48in plow, chains, wheel weights, and a really nice 48in deck. Hasn't run in 8 years and the motor is currently stuck. I figured it was a decent deal at $150. Poured some ATF down the spark plug hole yesterday, and will see if she'll move today. If not I'll probably just pull the head. If things get worse I'll just part her out. Question: This tractor does not have a hydro release lever. There is a cover over the hole. It also rolls. What gives? I thought they all had release levers. The PO said it ran when parked, and I don't have any reason to doubt him. Can anybody provide some insight?

Nice find! I hope you get it running again. Would be a shame to part.
The tractor has automatic hydro release valves, I believe.

Nice find. Are the buttons on the reliefs stuck down? I picked one up that the plate on the lever was broken. It had sat with no pressure for a long time and it rolled. As soon as I started it the buttons pops up.

The wheel weights aren't standard cub weights. In fact I haven't come across this style before. They are about 50lbs, and sort of curve into the wheel. They are similar to the later cub weights on my 126.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
