My 'introduction'to J Mech was a rough one,
"I'm done. No use trying to debate this. You obviously know way more than Kohler, or anyone on here." when I was trying to discuss and share what I learned about the coils on my 1864. I took the time to dissect a coil in order to contribute to the forum but was still wrong even with proof. Pi$$ed me off but I appreciated his input the help I got here from other members too. I didn't turn him in, just went away for awhile. This is a great site with lots of good info (I search more than I post) with some very knowledgeable folks. |

Knowing Jon for as long as I have. He's a walking talking know it all.
And I mean that. He does know what he's talking about, or he won't comment. Which is seldom...As for all the questions asked here over the years by members, there may be a hand full that he answered he got wrong. Who else on this forum has that much know how? NOBODY! As far as I'm concerned, he don't "need" OCC, but OCC "needs" him. If you don't think so, some of you self proclaimed "know it all's", best step up... If I were in a jam, and couldn't figure something out on my own, guess who's getting the phone call, or PM, email? Yup, you guessed it, Jon. Cause I know I'm going to get the straight and honest answer, not the could be this, could be that. Straight, and to the point. And I wouldn't question it, cause there's no need to.

Know it alls can’t be told otherwise. I’ve posted things I wanted to do or was doing, and been verbally beaten down with facts but still tried it anyway until I saw for myself. It’s a tough pill to swallow when you’re someone who is determined to do what they want to do and have a hard time taking advice against doing that thing (me), especially blunt force advice. I’ve gone many many rounds with j-mech on here, on a variety of topics, and he has even questioned how much land I actually mow (I would think I am an expert on how much land I mow). I’ve learned to just stay on topic and do plenty of research before posting anything, don’t try crazy stuff like building a Frankenstein tractor out of spare parts just because, and everything is much better for me.
So, even though this ain’t twitter, #freejmech I’m sure he’s a good guy under that hard shell.

Jon has taken time out of his day, whether he’s working, at home, or otherwise, to give people FREE ADVICE. Myself included. When I was working at mounting my 1a tiller to my 1812, I was in new territory. He looked up the correct pulley I needed and PM’d me the link to it. I’m sure the same question over and over gets old, as well as saying over and over something won’t work, or is a waste of time. His delivery might be rough at times but step back and think about where he’s coming from. This Buds for you Jon, wherever you are

I thought the same exact thing... While the geniuses he mentioned may be somewhat socially awkward I doubt they belittle people on a daily basis. Real geniuses rarely need to flaunt how smart they are about a subject. It comes out naturally.

I like the guy, Jon. But some of the crap he says is not called for. I'll never forget his big mouth telling me what end is up! And how he done it a "million" times. Jon is so smart he is stupid! He argues so much about what someone is doing with their tractor. He is not inviting at all. He needs to know when to drop back 10 and punt. Let other members take a shot at helping another.
So if I offended any of you wise asses, I'm not sorry! And don't let your ass hit the door on the way out! But, arguing with Jon, and the fighting through out the membership, I've come to respect the guy and what he has done for the forum. I can relate to much of his wiz-bang comments, and get a good laugh too! So, Jon if your reading this, thanks for the help you have given to me, and the group.

I admit that sometimes I come here and ask something and the next day or even maybe next week I get to thinking "I put that on there"? I'm glad that the edit feature on here works longer than it does on other forums that I have been a part of.
Jon's pointed out a few of those things to me, right out in the open, for all to see/// seemingly not in such an animated way he seems to with others for some reason, (Don't start now, Jon) but when he's right he's right... many other forums when a question gets asked for the 1500th time the next person to respond says something like "this has been talked about here before.... did you search before asking?" I don't see as much of that here. Yet as I scrolled 50-some pages of that section before I found what I was looking for, I saw many repeated questions over and over..... and usually its Jon answering that question-again. I have met him in person once in a parking lot on the side of the road to make a parts swap, and he's really busy.... IDK how he is able to have the time to answer so many questions like he does... with everything else he gets himself into. IDK if his being "short" is other influences outside this site aggravating him and he "takes it out" here or what... I can see from an observer of SOME (definitely not all) of the posts he is a part of as to why he'd get aggravated with someone, especially ones I'm not involved in. but that day that I met him on the side of the road, if I wasn't heading elsewhere after that meeting and he didn't have a place to be himself, that we could have gone into the restaurant (I think it was a DQ parking lot we were at) and spent hours there talking about trucks, tractors and more. As far as him being on "time out," as of yesterday when I was here I think we were thru most of 3 pages of this thread... and now we are on what... 5 maybe 6 now? after I read the thread to that point I went and dug thru many old posts looking for two-ton's clutch jig and every time I passed a post that Jon had made,(some quite old) in searching for that info, the "green light" was on saying he was online. so is it the admins that put him on time out or is he just busy with whatever he does outside of here? |

General consensus appears to be that Jon shares both his opinions and knowledge unfiltered also that he is more good for the forum than he is negative. Let the man have access so he can continue to do what he has been doing.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
