Default 982 dies after minute run time

My 982 with 18 mag will die after about a minute with mower deck engaged. Shut PTO off and pull choke out and will limp it back to garage. Rebuilt carb last winter. Pulled it off looked good, cleaned all passages. Changed fuel filter. Put new gaskets on manifold. Still have same symptoms. I know pulling choke to keep running is indicative of carb issues, I just don’t see it. On a side note the fuel pump leaked out the other night, I installed a shut off valve and drained the oil/gas. Not sure if the pump could be the culprit?

Yes, was over full. Changed oil/gas mixture and installed shut off valve

Well,

Either your float is not closing the needle, or your fuel pump is leaking into engine.

There is a shut off valve and screen at the bottom of the fuel tank that maybe is clogged.

The OP is getting too much fuel so much that it is getting into the oil. The fuel valve at tank is not meant keep that from happening. The needle valve in carb controlled by the float is meant to stop flow of fuel when engine is not running.

If that valve is not being closed it means one of the following is happening.

A. Dirt keeping needle from closing
B. float not adjusted correctly
C. hole in float weighing float down keeping needle open.

There are other ways for fuel to get into crankcase. For the OP's sake I hope its the more simple things that I just mentioned.

The original question was shutting off after a minute under load and choke helps to keep running. Indicates fuel restriction.
Side note was about fuel in oil.

Agreed. I was going to mention checking for a clogged vent hole in the gas cap but now I guess there are bigger fish to fry.

Yeah.. I understand that. Was luckily able to deduce fuel in oil which is "like Ironman said" Bigger fish to fry.

Ditched the walbro carb and rebuilt a kohler/carter carb and installed. Too late to run it under load but engine sounds better wide open. Still have a walbro on a couple rigs that haven’t given any issue yet.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
