So,
I love reading all y'alls posts, and especially the thread on making them winter ready. New owner of a 109 here and this will be my first winter with this awesome tractor. I have the 42a snowblower and I can't find a simple way to get that thing mounted. Have a download of the manual but its not all that "user friendly" and in the detail step by step I need. Any of you have any tips and suggestions on how to do it easily and evenmore so, how to run it , what to watch for (besides cats and newspapers)? Carl in northern Maryland |

just recently hooked up a 42a to my 123. took me a few tries. a jack and blocks was what i used to get it. you may have to align the thrower pulley on the shaft so it lines up with the pto on yur tractor. two set screws on the inside of the pulley. allen wrench. be careful when moving the pulley though. may have to bump it with a hammer and you dont want to hit the outside of that pulley. use a puller if you can. works the best.

Put one of those little car scissors jacks under the edge of the gearbox bracket, line it up with the tractor, and roll the tractor into it.
BEFORE you mount it, make sure you can slide the pulley back and forth on the input shaft so you can line it up with the PTO clutch on the tractor after you get it on the tractor. Keep the chain lubed and all of the U-joints and bearings greased well. The belt needs to be tight. You may need to add a stop bolt to keep the adjustment from backing off. I would use only the Gates green belts or the OEM belt. You'll need some graphite paint on the inside of the chute if there's any rust there. You might want it anyway, as it really helps to prevent clogging in wet, heavy snow. When you're using it, it will throw the snow the furthest if it is kept full of snow. When it's just tugging on the governor but not slowing the engine down is the right load. Your forward speed will have to be varied depending on the amount and type of snow to accomplish this. Dress warmly, because unless you have a cab, you will get covered in snow if there is any wind at all. |

The guy I got the tractor from left the snowthrower on the supporting frame. I guess I can slide it right onto the tractor then and it should align properly and all since he used it last winter?

If he used it on the same series of tractor, then yes. Otherwise it may not.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
