Lot's of oils these days are not well suited for older air cooled engines. I run Kohler 30w in my 1872 year round. I have a recently remanufactured engine. No probs starting in the cold with the 30w and I figure Kohler's oil has what Kohlers engines need. I'm sure many others would be fine as well but the dealer is on my way home from work so it's no big deal to grab a couple of quarts of oil from them.

I use kohler 30wt also in my kt17 series II year around. I think the manual may say 10w30 for these current temps in conn

Most modern oils are backward compatable, any good quality oil would be a good recomendation and in cold weather, the multi viscosity oil will work to an advantage with possibly slightly additional consumption.
As with any engine, give it time to warm up before increasing the load/speed. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
