Hi all,
I have a cub cadet 1450 and it's leaking transmission oil. From what I can tell, it appears to be coming from the filter. This is the filter I have https://www.cubcadet.com/en_US/filte.../923-3014.html. I can't figure out how to get this leak to stop. I applied some oil to the gasket as the instructions said. Then I hand tightened it. There was still some leaking. I then used an oil filter wrench (I think this was a mistake) to tighten it some more. But that definitely did not help. I'm going to order another filter and try again, but I really don't know too much about what I am doing. Any tips or anything I should be looking for? I was sort of wondering if it could be leaking from somewhere else but then just running down to the filter. Therefore, it could be making it look like the filter is leaking. I've read other people have had the cork seal go bad and need replacing. Thanks! |

You will want to positively figure out where it is leaking from. As you said
it might not be the filter at all. Clean it up as well as you can and try to watch it as it runs. Did it start leaking after you changed the filter? Or could it have been leaking before that and you just noticed. If it has been leaking for a while there is more than likely pretty gooey evidence. Good luck, let us know what you find. Ken |

My 1711 appeared to be leaking from the filter. It ended up being a bad input shaft seal.

Is the gasket from the old filter still on there? Sometimes they stick.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
