New SG and VR not charging on a Marine Engine
hi all,
well I installed the cub starter generator on an antique engine, and finally decided to hook up the regulator which is new. no charge. Someone said i have to "polarize" the generator. Other posts say not to. I read that quick grounding the Field terminal should produce an unregulated charge. It didnt. Not sure where to go next, how to test the generator or of it needs to be "polarized"? Any advice helpful!

I have several Cubs, but this Starter-Generator is mounted to an antique one lunger marine engine. This is a new starter gen and I had never hooked up the new regulator until today.
I did the "polarize zap" thing, and tried grounding the field to test charging and the volts dont increase. I think that means the SG wont charge but its new so it should. I figured to ask how to test the generator section, ohms? I dunno?

LOL can we get to "how to tell if the generator is good or bad"???

No secret, boats tend to go to ground in shallow wadder
 Is yer regulator grounded to the engine, starter and anchor? do you have the regulator wires hooked up properly? Are you using worms/minnows or arti fficial bait?. Maybe try noodling catfish if dough balls don't work. Maybe use the generator for an anchor?
