What is confusing for me is, what is your definition of a "standard" pulley. The previous posts, stated it would be wise NOT to buy a cheap "Pot Metal" pulley, in that they do NOT hold up (which is true). They also stated, if you are not going to buy an OEM pulley, buy a "cast iron" pulley instead, because they will take the power, torque, and work load.

Since you gave undefined parameters to your question(s), the replies given were the best that could be given.

Lastly, you post picture(s) stating:
Quote:
Here is the pulley you want to see
and for me, I assume this is the pulley you are considering.

Lot of confusion going here.

I don't care for finished bore sheaves but that's what was originally used. I can't tell from the pic but I say give it a try. The big "if" is where does the belt rides as compared to the shaft now. If the belt rides where the sheave is over the shaft you're probably okay but if it rides below the shaft you may have issues.

If that were a split taper bushing type sheave you would be good to go. Does anyone know the datum diameter of the original sheave?

Do I remember someone using a double groove sheave in this issue because it rode more on the shaft?

I would be concerned with the depth of the hub on that unit.
How thick is it?
The key called for in the parts lookup is 2" long for use with the extended shaft unit..
In addition, there are 2 set screws to aid in stabilization of the shaft.
If the replacement pulley is not all thick in the hub area there will not be much key holding it in place.
I'm with Oak here...
Sure looks from the picture like the belt is awfully close to the slots in the gear box mounting plate.
Just asking for trouble down the road IMHO.
Maybe it will work for you and I hope it does.

See how far the shaft goes in and the belt rides if the pulley is flipped around.

The belt is dam near rubbing the gear box support the way it is now!
Flip the pulley around and it won't even go on unless you butcher the support.
Look at his picture!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
