Default Best way/option EPS delete on 2011 Cub Cadet GTX2154LE?

Hi folks! I was wondering if anyone out there has deleted the electronic power steering and went to manual steering? I see Cub’s new garden tractors are manual steering. I’m not spending $$$$ to fix this problematic electric junk that some things aren’t supported anymore. I saw 1 video on YouTube, but it was on a vertical shaft motor, not horizontal. If any of you have, did you take apart the mechanism and re-use steering shaft? I see they made a manual steering GT2100 that year, but of course the shaft is NLA. I’m already into this more than I wanna be, the 23hp motor is junk…

One thing I have learned with mine is the battery HAS TO BE fully charged at all times for the EPS to work.

Make sure you have a GOOD fully charged newer battery and that the tractor is putting FULL charge into it!

These things are 14 years old now, so you have to expect some issues I guess.
How old is your battery?

There may also be a relay involved.
Sorry, that's all I can offer on this one.
Most folks on here are into the older IH Cub Cadets and not the newer ones.

I am sure you can get a used GT2100 steering system or even a complete (but not running tractor) to do your switch for cheap (relative terms here)
if the motor is junk why even bother - or are you saying it is a piece of junk? if you dont like it that much it may be time to jet get a different tractor.

Wink

I'm betting most all folks that own one of these units don't even know there is a grease fitting on that housing down behind & nearly under the battery box.

A little update…after taking the whole shaft/motor assembly off and looking at everything, determined that I DID NOT need the manual shaft from a gtx2100. I took the electronic part off, removed the electric motor, then removed the 3 little gears inside the housing. I made a plastic cover for where motor was installed- used some RTV along with the 2 bolts. I re-installed everything, put new angled grease fittings on top and bottom to make greasing easier, and I added “Poor Mans Power Steering” thrust bearings to bottom of each steering spindle. The result is pretty amazing- super easy to turn, can even add spinner knob to steering wheel it turns so easy. I highly recommend deleting the $1k + electric steering problem…

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
