I have a Pro Z 160 L, 60" with a EZT750 Kohler Confidant engine. It's older, but it only has 185 hours on it. Was mowing my yard about a week ago, everything was fine, and after about an hour of mowing it started to sputter a little bit, so I headed to the garage. Luckily i made it to the garage because after I shut it off it would not start anymore. I can't figure out whats wrong, been troubleshooting for about a week off and on when I am not working.
The engine turns over, has spark (put in new plugs and used a spark tester), and has fuel (I removed the fuel injectors and turned the key and fuel spurts out). I don't understand what is going on, it won't even sputter or fire at all. It just turns over and over. I have messed with the switches, but i don't think it is any of them because it turns over and has spark, right? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am out of ideas. |

Fuel, spark and air (compressed). You say you got the 1st two. What about the third?

so I hooked up a compression tester to each cylinder, got 0 on one and like 30 on the other, but I didn't think it was legit. I read somewhere that a dual cylinder EFI engine like this probably has a pressure release or something, and also it only has 185 hours on it and it was running awesome now all of a sudden it won't even fire. Won't you lose compression kinda over time and start losing power gradually? would it be all of a sudden and on both cylinders? Do I need to take off the heads and look at valves or something?

maybe valves... sticking, bad lifter or bent rod.. Is this OHV? Pull the cover(s) and look see. Did motor overheat due to clogged fins or blocked grass screen?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
