Do you idle the engine before shutting down?

OK , here is what the manual says to do
Place the PTO in the "off" position , move the throttle control lever between the "mid" and "fast" positions , wait a moment to allow engine speed to stabilize then turn the ignition key to "Stop" Hope this answers and corrects any misconceptions Or read my previous post on this topic Oz

The faster and hotter the engine and muffler is the louder the pop will be when you shut it off. A faster running engine will "coast" to a stop longer. Gas and air is still being sucked through the carb and into the engine where it is not burned because the ignition is off. That gas and air mixture is then pushed unburnt into a hot muffler, hot enough to ignite unburnt gas, you then get a pop or bang, depending on how much unburnt gas mixture goes into the muffler. Always pull the throttle back to idle before turning off ignition to prevent this.

I have found that if you pull the choke at the same time that you turn the key off it doesn't bang.

Sorry for the long delay... Putting the throttle have way seems to improve the complete burning of the fuel... almost no pop! Thanks for all the responses. My notifications are not on! Will have to fixthat

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
