Default New to me 1863

Picked up an 1863 this weekend. This is my first cyclops era cub having several narrow frames in the past. It has the usual issues that I’ve read about on various forums such as broken plastic and surging when running. So far I e changed fluids and filters and the plugs. Have a carb kit and fuel pump on the way. It definitely needs a bath and a set of front tires!
Can anyone point me toward a list of attachments that fit this tractor? It has a 54” deck and I’d like to find a snow plow that will work with the hydro lift.

Thanks Sam.

I’m happy with it so far. Hoping once I get the carb rebuilt and the fuel pump changed the throttle / surging issue is resolved. I suppose next item will be the solenoid on the carb if that doesn’t fix it.

I think you are going to enjoy your 1863 as well...the front grille would be another item that I would put on the "fix it" list. Grilles are very expensive to replace and hard to find.

I fixed a crack in the lower front surround with a piece of metal that I formed to the damaged area to attach the pieces together and strengthen the joint. I painted the lower portion of the grille to hide the flat head screws that I counter sunk and filled. The lower section in the second picture shows my shadow in the foreground standing in front of the grille, which makes it look like the paint is darker. It is really a perfect match to the rest of the grille. Check out the pictures...

That looks pretty nice! you did a nice job on the repair from what I can tell. My nosepiece is broke in the same spot so I may need to make the same repair. I have it off right now working on repairing that and several other cracks and breaks in it and the grill. The side panels need some love as well. What paint did you use?
The PO unfortunately spray painted the whole tractor at some point very hastily and did not appear to prep the surfaces well either. The headlight lens was completely painted over and there are runs and overspray everywhere so once I get the repairs made and filled I'll sand it all down and hopefully repaint it a bit better. I was able to get the headlight lens cleaned off with a headlight polishing kit I had.

Got the carb rebuilt, changed plugs, oil, and filters. Its running pretty good now. Starts right up without choke, idles and has good throttle response. I wish it was warmer out so I could degrease it all.

I dont know if anyone still makes them but the tubular front bumper is a good investment. Mine has not been on in almost 7-8 years now since my 2182 has retired to snowblowing only. you could easily make your own if you are handy that way.

I was thinking the same thing. Once I get thru all of the refresh on this tractor and have it operating well I plan to add a bumper.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
