Wow, that's pristine! Do your darndest to avoid repainting, just wax and buff the crud out of it! So much more impressive with it's originality maintained! You're a lucky dog, and pretty sure you've made everyone on this site jealous...

As isaid on you other thread, just be easy on the starter. The starter you have is nla and very hard to find. The replacement one is bigger and doesn't actually fit in the frame. You have to grind the frame down to get it to fit. From what I've heard, parts for the small starters are now nla. If you have any problems with it, you'll have to take it to a starter shop and see if they can modify some brushes to get them to work.

I have been told about the "small starters" by several people, including the owner of the local dealership. Luck enough I have a buddy that works for a local rebuild shop, they rebuild everything from starters to heavy equipment turbos. By even more luck there is a machine shop next door that can make parts "fit", the two together have saved me a lot of headaches. NLA to them just means they get to be creative.

I had plans on getting up this morning and pulling the head off the engine but I was met at the front door by several inches of fresh snow. The tractor is under cover but it is too darn cold to be out there messing with it. Plans put off till another day. I am very ichy to get into it and see what is going on.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
