My 129 starts-runs for about 5 seconds-then stalls. As it stalls fuel blows out the carb throat. Anyone know where I should start? Sounds like ignition. Point gap? Coil test specs? Condensor test specs. Looks like an auto regulator in the bat. box. Should that be grounded?

Helloooooooooooooo,
Anyway, The engine is cranking but I'm getting no spark and no power to points lead. I was going to try a new voltage regulator. Anyone have an idea?

Might be the coil as well. Check for clean grounds as well. Wiring gremlins? Here's a link to the wiring diagram.

Havent started on the carb yet. Supposedly it was rebuilt according to the seller but who knows. It did fire and ran for about 5 seconds and shut down. When I got it to the shop it wouldn't fire or spark at all. Checked coil values-good. The volt regulator on the outside there is a coil wrapped very thin wire around a solid conductor that appears to be burnt. I think it shorted because the rubber isolators are broken off. Can I use a solid state auto style regulator?

The crimped head on the negative coil wire was faulty causing an intermttent circuit to the points. ran a new wire and it runs wicked good now. I'm off to pick up a 782 I found on Cape Cod. It has the MK2 engine.

I have a tendency to crimp a connection, solder it together, then heat shrink it. That was a trick I figured out doing car stereos a long time ago. My stuff always worked better than my friends.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
