1863 question

I got a guy that is interested in doing some trading with me on a ztr that I have for sale. He has a 1863 with about 770 hours on it but, one of the heads has valve seat trouble and he is looking at getting a machine shop to repair or buy a new one for about $150. He thinks the engine overheated and caused the problem because there was a lot of trash in the cooling fins. It has the original Kohler Command in it. Another question I have is on the transmission, it has a hydro-gear type and it looks like the cheaper models used those in the 90's. Are these transmissions any good?
He said all the side panels are in good shape with original decals and I think he said it has a 54" deck. Should I let this one pass on down the road?
