if it looks kinda rough, count out $300 in 20s on the hood and see if he'll take that. Counting them out 20, 40, 60, 80... and him seeing that stack of bills gets folks excited. It's a good wheelin' and dealin' tactic.

Non-running: 100 max, unless it's been maintained and/or looks good.
Running rough condition $300 max
Running clean condition $500 max tractor only.

That's what I'd pay, but really it's worth as much someone is willing to pay for it.

And in the transition between IH and CCC, some CI rears are black on CCC-built machines assembled from mostly IH parts, before serial number 720,000.

I was thinking $500 tops myself, but he's at $700 and doesn't appear amenable to coming down any. Time will tell. If he does, however, I'll need to check it out a little more. For example, how does the hydro tranny work? There are two sliders on the right side of the dash. The one on the far right is the speed control, but what is the one next to it?

And, if I take it out on the lot and operate it, how do I give the transmission a good test to be sure it is okay?

Also, is there a pdf manual available for this unit, or, perhaps, the 682?

Any thoughts on how to test the hydro transmission when I drive it so that I know its working correctly - what to look, listen for, etc.? Never operated one of these before.

If it whines and growled it needs new fluid and filter. If it is very jerky and not smooth to accelerate, the trunnion needs work. These transmissions are virtually indestructable by normal use. If it spins the tires on grass it's probably alright!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
